Go Island Hopping

These islands are just off the continental U.S. and are among the easiest tropical places to visit. Their warmth and easy vibe make them attractive to those in need of relaxation. Find a secluded spot, ask a tour guide or better yet, a local, for recommendations on out-of-the-way beaches, restaurants and nightlife.

Take to the Road
Sometimes all that’s needed for a romantic getaway is the family car, a tank of gas and a GPS system. Road trippers have a world of options for travel and adventure is as near as the closest highway onramp. Consider taking in the views along Florida’s A1A, or see the Southwest via Route 66, circle the Great Lakes, cruise through farm country on Vermont’s Route 100, experience the South along U.S. 17 which goes along the coast of South Carolina and Georgia. No matter the vista, the company you keep along the way is what makes all the difference.

Stay in Bed

Although bed-and-breakfasts vary widely, they are often found in out of the way, or rural locales. And some of the best focus on excellent food and proximity to major attractions. So it’s no wonder that some of the highest-rated are found in Napa Valley, Florida’s Gulf Coast, the mountains of North Carolina and the Texas Hill Country, among others.

Hit the Casinos
There is still something very sexy and James Bond-esque about hitting the black jack table and beating the house. The great thing about the Las Vegas-style weekend getaway is that you don’t necessarily have to go to Las Vegas to have the experience. If the glitzy Vegas strip is too far a destination during a short weekend, try Reno or Atlantic City. Most states offer some sort of gambling and certain casinos have evolved to include spas and fine dining.

Nature is for Lovers
Checklist for a romantic camping trip: a tent, two (or one) sleeping bags, food, water and provision, flashlight or lanters, and a sense of adventure. Have it all? You’re set. Without the distraction of a TV or Internet, all that’s left is to unwind, take in the vista and reconnect with your life partner. Hiking, kayaking, boating and fishing all serve to rejuvenate your tie to the natural world and make you work hand-in-hand with your spouse.

Pampered to Perfection

Consider a couple’s massage, spend time in the sauna and explore options available to pairs. In addition to the personal care and salon services offered, many spas also offer a multitude of activities from special meals to spiritual retreats to sport packages.
