As the new NBC action-drama “Knight Rider” begins its fall season, one of its stars, rising Latina actress Paula Garces continues to expand her artistic abilities beyond the small-screen through film, producing and online. As the star and executive producer of the new feature film Red Princess Blues, and Mun2’s network new Executive Producer/Host to “The Callback”, Garces has collaborated with a new innovative social media and micro-financing site called myProducer.tv (http://www.myProducer.tv). The site, developed by Edward Vincent who also created the Dominican International Film Festival in 2005, will engage the film loving community as well as the Latina community through a new partnership with Red Princess Blues. Joining forces with award-winning Latino director Alex Ferrari and visual effects technician Alex Friderici of Pan’s Labyrinth, Spy Kids and Sin City, Garces and the team are creating a forum where the Latino community can cheer on Garces film and even collaborate on key decisions in the process.
Red Princess Blues is a feature film following the animated prequel by the same title, written and directed by Ferrari, and produced by Paula Garces and her husband Antonio Hernandez. The film is an “Action adventure revenge fairy tale” about a Colombian woman named “Red Princess” who discovers her true past and knife throwing abilities when her family is threatened and her life is destroyed. The animated and feature film version have a graphic, novel-type plot and offer a Sin City-style action, adventure experience.
Just as Red Princess shows the audience how to control one’s own destiny, Garces believes that myProducer.tv will do the same for like-minded, independent producers. She is looking to Myproducer.tv to pave the way for other independent film directors, cast members and crews to find feedback, producers and overall support for their projects. The feedback from the site will allow Paula Garces and Alex Ferrari to collaborate with the Latino and wider film community to gain insights regarding content, casting and other artistic ideas. “myProducer.tv will allow me and my crew great access to our audience so we can hear what they are looking to experience from this film, and put that into action. I care deeply about getting input and having the support from my community and family. MyProducer.tv provides us with this type of collaboration,” says leading actress and producer Paula Garces. “myProducer will not only help in raising awareness for our film, but will also give us the opportunity to raise funds and allow our fans to become an actual “producer” of the film through their and feedback financial support.”
In addition to her roles in both Harold & Kumar films, “Clockstoppers”, “Man of The House”, “The Shield,” “Knight Rider,” and her work as Executive Producer on Red Princess Blues, Garces will host and produce a new television reality series on Mun2, a national cable channel owned by NBC Universal targeting young Latino viewers. The new show, “The Call Back” is a reality competition for aspiring Latino actors and actresses with the winner receiving a development deal on an NBC Universal television show. The Call Back will debut in June 2009.
The cast and crew of Red Princess Blues invite the film loving audience to create a profile on myProducer.tv and start participating in the new project. According to the website, myProducer.tv encompasses the social networking tools of popular social media sites, video streaming capabilities of YouTube and micro-financing fundraising tools similar to those used by the Barack Obama campaign. Through these tools, the audience can engage the filmmakers, cast and crew, discuss the film project with other fans and even provide financial support by becoming a peer producer through contributions directly though the site. myProducer.tv, Red Princess Blues and Garces are joining forces to give film lovers a true voice in creating films they love.
